The representative for my freeholder has been a nightmare to deal with. They are nearly impossible to reach, lack transparency, and seem solely focused on squeezing money from leaseholders. After they added over £50,000 in cladding and fire-safety costs to my service charge—despite my status as a qualifying leaseholder exempt from these fees—I filed a formal complaint through my managing agent. Six months later, I still haven't received a response. I've been trying to sell my flat for years, but service charges have skyrocketed, the building is not well-maintained, and potential buyers walk away immediately. My property's value has dropped by around £100,000, leaving me feeling trapped. When we attempted to exercise our Right to Manage, the representative blocked our efforts at the last moment using incorrect information, hit us with a legal bill exceeding £1,000, and even sent a threatening email to dissuade us. We had to hire a surveyor to prove their mistake. The fees are outrageous, ground rent has doubled, and necessary fire-safety works remain unaddressed despite years of warnings. Their conduct has been unprofessional, obstructive, and financially detrimental to leaseholders. I hope this review encourages them to finally address my complaint.
