Hope Macaulay is a family-run, woman-owned contemporary luxury fashion brand, founded by textiles designer Hope Macaulay on the beautiful North Coast of Northern Ireland.
Just two years after graduating, Hope Macaulay emerged in 2020 as an inspiring, slow fashion, global brand, hailed by the fashion world as dopamine dressing. What began as Hope knitting alone in her bedroom has expanded into a team of 20 skilled knitters working from home across Northern Ireland, helping keep the traditional cottage industry alive.
Hope is best known for her creation of the signature statement piece, the Colossal Knit Cardigan. Unable to find pieces to make from other’s knitting patterns, she developed her own method, just by using her hands. By mastering a unique knitting technique that uses no needles, Hope has trained her knitters to create her designs, her favourites made from sustainably sourced materials like luxury merino wool.
Hope’s energetic and surreal designs have been featured in major fashion publications, such as Vogue, GQ, Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, and the New York Times, and have adorned celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Naomi Osaka, Jennifer Hudson, Black Pink’s Lisa and Rosalía. Her influence and dedication to mindful, local craftsmanship has also earned her a spot on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
Despite the rapid growth and international acclaim, Hope remains dedicated to her roots in Northern Ireland. She continues to support local women by providing them with meaningful work and maintaining a close-knit supply chain.
