I was very concerned that the garage mechanics where I took my car for servicing were being forced to work in the sub-zero temperatures we have recently experienced with the ‘Beast from the East 2’. It was -12C and they had absolutely no heating whatsoever in the garage. They were frozen and when they asked the management for heating they said there was nothing they could do. They are all immigrants in that workshop and cannot afford to lose their jobs by complaining. We took the trouble to inform HSE, filled out the forms (twice as they enquired why the employees themselves did not fill in the form). Again I had to point out that they were in fear of losing their jobs even through some we’re getting ill. Finally they responded that since it wasn’t an employee raising an issue of health and safety they were not prepared to act. Of course, once they have decreed their intricate plan of no action, they send it to you, cowardly, in a ‘no reply’ email. Is Joanne Cross, who signed this email from their ‘Concerns and Advice’ team, afraid of a conversation, discussion, action??This is total and utter bureaucracy, incompetence and extremely unhelpful. This is another example of our tax money in the time of Covid being wasted and should be shut down, saving money against these trouser-seat polishers.
