We engaged Idea Usher to build a comprehensive Golf Swing Analysis platform. The core requirement was to use the user's phone camera to auto-detect skeletal joints and measure hip rotation and swing plane in real-time.The project designs were great, but we hit a major bottleneck during the development of the AI module. Our initial computer vision models were accurate on the server, but when we tried to run them on actual mobile devices, the inference time was too slow. We were getting barely 15 FPS, which made the 'smooth swing playback' look choppy and unusable for professional coaching.Their engineering team stepped up in a big way. Instead of just blaming the hardware, their AI lead proposed shifting from cloud-based processing to On-Device Edge AI. They optimized our models using TensorFlow Lite and CoreML, effectively moving the heavy lifting to the phone’s NPU. This reduced the latency to near-zero and got us running at a stable 60 FPS. It was a complex pivot that required deep knowledge of mobile hardware, not just basic coding.
