Shop elsewhere & Avoid Irish Garage Equipment Ltd– They ignore Irish Consumer Law until the Court steps in
I bought a Hyundai hedge trimmer for €159 that failed within 10 minutes. Instead of a refund, I was given a lecture on "company policy" by "O," who suggested their T&Cs overrule the Sale of Goods Act.
They ignored the CCPC advice I quoted to them, tried to force a repair I didn’t want, and even shipped the unit back to me in a battered box after I'd explicitly demanded a refund. I eventually had to travel from Cork to Dublin just to return it again.
They spent over a year fighting a simple refund, only to ignore the Small Claims Court proceedings entirely. It was only after the Court intervened that they finally settled.
Advice to others- Don’t be intimidated by their "policy" talk. They bank on you thinking €159 isn't worth the fight. It costs just €25 to lodge a Small Claims application online—no solicitor needed. It’s the best €25 I’ve ever spent.
Case No: D:SC:DMA:2025:006736. Save the snarky defensive reply, management; the Court has already spoken.
