I am writing to express my concern regarding my recent experience applying for an Indonesian visa through the online application system. I initially attempted to complete the application on my computer, but the process was very difficult to navigate. One issue I encountered was with the date-of-birth field. For applicants older than 65, the calendar only allows you to move backward one month at a time, making it extremely time-consuming to reach the correct birth year. After completing the registration section and uploading my passport and photo, I clicked “Apply,” but nothing happened. I tried several times and restarted the process multiple times, but the application did not proceed or provide any confirmation that it had been submitted. I then tried completing the process on my phone, where the system was somewhat easier to navigate. However, it immediately directed me to a payment page. This was confusing, as the computer version had not indicated that my application had been successfully submitted. While using my phone, I selected a C1 visa for 30 days, since I am only traveling to Indonesia for two weeks. On the computer version, this option was not available; the only option shown was a 60-day visa. Another concern is that the system did not clearly display the cost before directing me to payment. My understanding was that a 30-day visa would cost approximately $43 CAD. However, once the payment was processed, I received a receipt for $179.99 CAD, and the visa type listed was a B1 visa, which I did not intentionally select. I contacted your office by email to ask for clarification regarding this charge. Instead of addressing my question, I was asked to provide my receipt number. After I sent it, I received a response stating that my application had been received and that the visa would be processed within 1–3 days. Unfortunately, my question regarding the charge was not addressed. After sending several follow-up emails asking for an explanation, I still did not receive a response to my concern. Instead, the visa was issued. The reason for 1 star, i would have given a ZERO if I had that option, based on the following points:
I was charged $179.99 CAD when I believed I was applying for a 30-day C1 visa. The system listed a B1 visa when I selected a C1 visa. The cost of the visa was not clearly displayed before payment was processed. In addition, I strongly encourage improvements to the online visa application system, including clearer visa options, transparent pricing before payment, and better functionality on desktop computers.
