After years of loyalty to TurboTax, this will be my last year using their service — and it’s because of the same issue I’ve experienced for the past three years. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.Every single year, like clockwork, the emails and text messages start rolling in saying it’s time to file and that TurboTax is “ready.” This year, once again, I selected the option to have my 2025 tax refund directly deposited into Credit Karma — a bank owned by TurboTax’s parent company. It clearly stated that if you chose this option, you would receive an advance on your refund. My medical treatment is extremely expensive. Chemotherapy is not cheap, and the bills are piling up. I genuinely needed that advance. Here we are on February 23. I was accepted on February 1. The Internal Revenue Service typically processes returns within 21 days. Yet once again, TurboTax and Credit Karma failed to deliver. Not only did I not receive an advance, but they had me calling back and forth between them while each blamed the other. No one seemed to know what they were doing. The only thing they managed to accomplish was wasting hours of my time on the phone. To make matters worse, I usually pay $169 for their service. This year, they had the audacity to charge me $219.At this point, I want a full refund. I was misled, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told none were available. The lack of accountability, transparency, and basic customer service is staggering.I am beyond disappointed.
