I started out with turbo tax free edition. My tax documents consisted of 5 W2s for both my wife and myself, 3 109Xs for social security and my wife’s stint substituting at the local district and a small negative number from my wife’s Mary Kay work. Long story made short, by the time I was done, I owed Intuit roughly $240 consisting of 3 cost increases one of which was not disclosed until I saw the receipt. I’ve used TurboTax for decades, but would I ever do it again? Not likely. And, the IRS should remove them from the approved “free tax” list.
