I have a house in France and travel over every two weeks and have done so for many years. I have tried all four of the operators doing the crossing and currently my favorite is Irish Ferries. Firstly they are one of the cheapest (a three/four day return crossing currently costing £98, though you get this only through their website). Secondly the ships are comfortable, particularly the new to the fleet Oscar Wild. I always travel in the Club Class Lounge. There is an extra charge but what you get for that is a tasty three course meal and free drinks. If you compare the price for a meal and a drink in the main dining aria you are not paying very much more. You also get Priority boarding which allows you to get on and off first which is particularly useful when it is busy and a very comfortable and quite lounge. Though it dose cost extra, compared to the other two ferry companies, is significantly cheaper and for that (Oscar Wild) you get the large, comfortable lounge, an exclusive posh toilet and sundeck. Finally, and something I do grumble about is P&O and DFDS VIP lounge's look lovely but if you want to sit in comfort and perhaps have a kip which I do, you can't. The seats look good but they are just for show. They are simply hard and uncomfortable.
