I ordered what looked like a really nice shirt in December 2024 from ‘ John Clothier London ‘, for my bf, and immediately received a ‘ Thank you for your order ‘ email . As I didn’t receive any other emails after several weeks I became concerned. So I emailed them 3 x more, each time after a few weeks. I had no choice but to ask my bank to step in. My bank were great, they talked me through the form I had to complete, and after several weeks they secured and returned my payment from John Clothier. Then In February 2025 I received an email from John Clothier saying ‘ I’d left something in my basket ‘. I immediately knew that they were trying to make me re order the shirt that they never sent. They knew my bank had secured the payment they took from my card, and returned it to me.As I didn’t respond to them, a few days later, they sent me other emails saying ‘ we haven’t heard back from you ‘ (I imagine whiny voice). Had they just admitted that they had ‘ dropped the ball ‘ with my order, I would have left it at that. But I could see a pattern of behavior emerging. Their shirts aren’t cheap at over £100/$128 (at time of writing this). So I started searching for info about them. They have started calling themselves ‘ John Clothier London ‘ on their website and appeared in google searches as ‘ John Clothier London ‘, embedded in to their meta title & H1 tags, so they would appear for those search terms in google. I also noticed that the correspondence emails were signed off with an Indian or Pakistani name. As I am in the UK I looked further in to them. Their original trading name ‘ John Clothier ‘ and then ‘John Clothier London ‘ give the impression of a traditional prestige London shirt maker. They must know this and have played on it. ‘ John Clothier London ‘ makes you believe they are a traditional English shirt maker. However; when I tried to find their London address online, I couldn’t find it. Just a street name was given, but no street number. Which made me even more suspicious. I couldn’t find a street No for the address. So I don’t know if they actually do have a street shop in London. If they don’t that’s not a crime, but why give the impression that they do have a retail shop in London? My work assistant emailed them asking for their shop address (including street number) in London, but didn’t receive any reply. On their website contact form they show street addresses in Australia and United States, as well as the UK. But again, just the street name, no actual street number for any of the addresses. They are clearly taking much money for orders over the internet, as not that many companies sell high collar mens shirts, at these prices. Maybe they are getting so many orders they can’t keep up. I don’t know. What I do know is that, had I not been with a big bank I may not have got my money back. I could also have very easily forgotten about my order after so long a period of time too. They give the impression that they have 3 physical shops, but i don’t know if they do have. Or are they just using registered office addresses at these places. That’s not illegal. But why not give the whole address and postcode, including the street number. This behaviour to me seems to be evasive.I just sense something isn’t right with this business. You may not be as lucky as me if you place an order with ‘ John Clothier London ‘. Be aware, always order using a credit or debit card, don’t do a money transfer to their bank, or you may not get your money back.My last msg to ‘ John Clothier London ‘;You think we would now want a shirt we ordered in December 2024, we are now at the end of Feb 2025, and the first i've heard from you, are you deluded? I emailed you 3 x since we ordered but received no reply. Of course we wanted a refund. Look up the words ' customer service ', and fully understand the meaning of it. As you clearly didn't provide any to me as a customer. It goes without saying, i will never order from John Clothier again. And will make sure my social media followers and all the main customer review platforms are aware of how you treated this (not anymore) customer.
