I’ve had a mixed experience with Koru Kids. There are definitely positives, and the platform is thoughtfully built, but ultimately the model hasn’t worked for our family — particularly in terms of consistency and long-term care.The positives:Customer service has been genuinely helpful and responsive whenever we've needed support.The app and platform are excellent — it’s easy to approve hours, manage payments, and Koru Kids takes care of legal aspects like pensions and contracts. That administrative support is a real benefit and removes a lot of hassle.However, the core issue we’ve faced is continuity of care — or rather, the lack of it.Before using Koru Kids, we found nannies either through word of mouth or via traditional agencies. While that route can be expensive, it usually resulted in hiring someone who was able and willing to stay in the role for 2+ years — sometimes even longer. Since moving to after-school care and trying Koru Kids, that simply hasn’t been our experience.Unfortunately, the model seems geared more toward nannies looking for short-term or gap-fill work — not people interested in committing to a family for the long haul. As a result, our experience has felt very stop-start:Nanny 1: Stayed for 8 months before leaving due to health reasons.Nanny 2: Lasted just 4 weeks before heading overseas to pursue a teaching opportunity.during the transition between Nanny 2 and Nanny 3, approx £1,500 in fees was incorrectly debited from our account, due to miscommunication that Nanny 2 was no longer working with us. To Koru Kids’ credit, the error was swiftly resolved and the amount fully reimbursed — which we appreciated — but it added another layer of complexity to what has already been a very choppy experience.Nanny 3: With us for 6 weeks before needing to take two months off for university.In all cases, there was no early warning of these potential disruptions, which left us scrambling to fill the gaps. The burden has fallen on us to either fill in the care ourselves or restart the onboarding process all over again — which, frankly, is exhausting.But above all, it’s been emotionally difficult for our children. They’ve had to repeatedly say goodbye to caregivers they were only just beginning to bond with. One nanny in particular — the one who stayed only four weeks — was brilliant. She could sing like a Disney princess and was amazing at arts and crafts. But when she left so quickly, both of our children were really upset. It just wasn’t worth the emotional toll. That kind of instability may be manageable for adults, but it’s difficult for young children who thrive on consistency and trust.In summary, while I appreciate the convenience, support, and tech behind Koru Kids, I wouldn’t recommend it for families who need reliable, longer-term childcare. The nannies we’ve met have all been lovely people, but the model itself seems fundamentally unsuited to providing the kind of continuity children really need. Dear Koru Kids.
