We booked our honeymoon with Kuoni.

We booked our honeymoon with Kuoni.We advised that we wanted to do a safari and and Mauritius. We said that our budget was £10,000 but that we would be happy to increase our budget to ensure we got high-quality hotels and a luxury experience. The Kuoni staff member Nicola advised that we go to South Africa for Safari and then to Mauritius to the Lagoon attitude hotel. We were very happy with the first half of the holiday, the Safari was amazing. However, they booked us a pretty poor standard hotel in Johannesburg. Which was just one night so we dealt with it. Then when we got to Mauritius, we were very let down by the standard of the hotel. It was a plastic free hotel (which wasn’t flagged to us) so no bath, no mini bar. On a number of occasions the bar men were very rude. Ignoring us and taking phonecalls after we ordered drinks, telling us to go to the other bar etc. There was no waiter service at the pool. It was a 4 star resort, we would have booked 5 star if we organised the trip ourselves. Usually 4 star is fine for us - we aren’t usually high maintenance- but you only get one honeymoon and we wanted the best holiday ever. We trusted Kuoni when they said it was a luxury hotel. In fairness the local agent for Kuoni got the hotel to fix a lot of the issues and the hotel made a big effort.I think our main issue is that we trusted Kuoni’s advice to give us luxury treatment, it feels like they just wanted to make quick commission from us rather than take their time to ensure they listened to us and understood exactly what we wanted. We would’ve paid another 5k if it meant we got 5 star service. I just don’t understand why they are earning their commission on these holidays if not for their expertise and advice - I can book flights and hotels myself- what I wanted was a professional in travel who would tailor make a honeymoon to our specific interests. We did not receive this. When we were on holiday, we were emailing Kuoni to ask them to transfer hotels for us. They sent us template responses and then began ignoring us. Nicola and Amy who arranged and booked our holiday were both on annual leave during our honeymoon, do we got out of offices. It would’ve been great if they handed our case over to someone whilst they were away in case we haf issues, which we did.We will never book with Kuoni again. My advice to any prospective honemooners - do it yourself!
