I received an unsolicited cold call regarding some life insurance polices I had previously taken out a number of years ago.
I was then asked to provide personal data so they could verify it was me. At this point I said it made me uneasy and I would be ending the call.
Shortly after this I received an email apologising for making me feel uncomfortable, and confirming it was genuinely them.
I asked the handler to pass some feedback to the relevant team that asking for personal data on an unsolicited cold call was problematic in 2026.
The handler responded with a lesson on GDPR, and why I would need to provide any such information to any company I called that held my information.
I think he missed the point as I was not claiming they were in breach of GDPR, nor do I require a lesson in it.
My points are as follows 1) I didn't call them, I received an unsolicited cold call. 2) The script followed by the call handler did not convince me the call was genuine, or that I was safe to provide my personal data. This is the feedback I wanted passed on, and this review is written to ensure it is received
Edit - the response below states they do not make unsolicited cold calls. To be clear, I have not recently been looking at life insurance or making insurance enquiries of any kind. When they called me they said it was to review policies I took out a few years ago with L&G. I class this as an unsolicited cold call, even if they do not
