As one of the unfortunates that have gone through the Login.gov's self-verification process, my experience today was a disaster. After an hour or so of taking selfies over and over again because the program tends to glitch out, I finally advanced to the step of having them send me a code by phone. But they don't recognize my phone number, the same one I've been using for 10+ years. Do they want my previous phone number from years ago, the one from which I'd never receive their code because I no longer have that number?!? I thought, ok, I'll make an appointment to do this in person at the post office. But the first step to that is - you guessed it - they need my phone number to send me a code to verify it's my number. And I can't use my current phone number because they don't recognize it, and the loop goes on and on and on and ... Didn't they use to offer MAILING the code to the home address? What's up with that??Long story short, I went to ID.me instead. They too want to verify my phone number, but failing that you can complete the verification process with a live agent online.
