My experience with the Lumiere Individual Research Program was excellent. The program is extremely well organized, which makes a huge difference when conducting an independent research project. From the beginning, you have a very clear understanding of what is expected of you and what you will be working on each week. This structure helps tremendously with maintaining focus and managing your time, and you never feel lost during the process.
Another highlight is the level of support provided throughout the program. My mentor was incredible and offered thoughtful guidance that really strengthened my research. Beyond that, the program also provides support through the Writing Center and the Program Manager, so there is always someone available to help you move forward. In addition, Lumiere offers workshops that address common questions students may have but might not have had the chance to discuss during mentor meetings. Because of this, you never feel unsupported at any point in the journey.
Overall, the project structure is impeccable and clearly very well thought out. The program truly helps students step up their research skills. Even though I already had significant research experience, I still found the program extremely valuable in refining my thinking, writing, and academic approach.
