WARNING > DON’T TAKE OUT THIS POLICY WITH MOMENTUM. MOMENTUM’S STALLING POLICY. Expect repeat stalling tactics and exhaustion, anything but a fair claim settlement from Momentum. Their modus is to wear you down, requesting information, which is then supplied, and then months later they request more information which is supplied, and then months later, repeat, repeat. A year has gone by, and now their tactic is to say the information is out of date, and we must repeat the claim reports. But now here’s the thing, THEY REFUSE TO TELL ME IF THERE ARE ANY FURTHER REQUIREMENTS AFTER THAT. And they say that we must also continue to pay the premium while they draw this out. So, it seems we can go another year. In the meantime, my partner is very ill. Momentum broker RPS Braam van der Mescht sold my partner a Momentum policy (202857868) for a payment of R200 000 in the event he cannot work. He paid the policy for 17 years, circa R80 000. He was diagnosed with Pseudomonas, Asthma, and Alzheimer’s. I approached the broker in November 2022 to claim on Gerrit’s behalf. Van der Mescht said it was a matter between us and Momentum and declined to help but sent me some forms, which later proved to be not the full forms that we needed. And so started the merry-go-round with Momentum. For over a year now Momentum has been giving me the run around requesting more and more reports. They are now saying that the original report from the Neurologist is outdated, and we must start all over again with a new visit to the neurologist with all the tests repeated in spite of the fact that the clarity in the report that the situation is degenerative. I have asked them to tell me if we go back and do the tests again, what else they would need after that. THEY REFUSE TO TELL ME. So, if there are any Momentum directors who care. 1. Would Momentum agree to pay out if we can redo all the tests and send them the same report but updated? Or are they again going to ask for “more information” and IF SO, WHAT WOULD THAT REQUEST BE? 2. If they refuse to pay out, is it possible to at least get back the R80 000 that they received, as I feel my partner was sold a policy not fit for purpose? 3. If not either of the above, the public must please be warned about this sort of policy; one that claims to pay you in the event you cannot work. Invariably the claim will occur when one is sick and won’t have the health or the faculties to contend with the Momentum policy of stalling until one gives up. Shame on you RPS the brokers who earned commission on this. Shame on you Momentum for your lack of understanding of the duty of care.CJ Backstrom
