My unfortunate experience serves as a stark warning for anyone thinking of exploring the mortgage process with this company, but choose not to proceed.Upon Jacqueline Moulen's recommendation (who has since left Mortgage Direct), things started off well. To get more details on the process, I signed their terms and conditions and paid a retainer fee, a reasonable step. However, once I decided not to move forward with buying a property in Spain or Portugal, things took an unexpected turn.Shockingly, despite not delivering any of the services promised in their terms and conditions – like document processing, translations, bank account opening, property valuation, or recommending legal and real estate services – Mortgage Direct SL refused to refund my retainer fee of EUR750 plus 21% VAT, or even part thereof. Just to be clear, none of these promised services were provided. I ended up with just one email listing the required documents and a brief overview of the mortgage process. Hardly worth the EUR1000 fee!Crucially, Mortgage Direct SL retains the entire payment, around EUR1000, even when none of the promised retainer services are delivered. This willingness to keep money for services not provided reflects a serious lack of integrity and professionalism.While Jacqueline Moulen showed professionalism and helpfulness initially, dealing with Vera Simão (who took over from Jacqueline) and the Business Operations Manager, Lorenzo Saccardi, was far from satisfactory. Their focus on financial gain over client satisfaction left me extremely disappointed.In summary, if you are not completely certain whether to pursue the mortgage process after initial exploration, think twice about Mortgage Direct SL. Their refusal to refund a substantial retainer fee for undelivered services is a glaring sign of unscrupulous business practices. Look for more reliable alternatives in the mortgage brokerage industry to protect your financial interests.
