In just a couple of months the screen started displaying signs of wearing through the surface. Very obvious marks where screen actions were made. Like the top layer of the screen was rubbing off. I contacted Motorola but they shrugged me off and said it was nothing to worry about. Then the ghost touches started. I’m a VERY careful person. Being mostly poor, I cannot afford to replace things so I handle and use everything with extreme care so that they last. I have never dropped the phone, knocked it, exposed it to moisture, or put it in a pocket or handbag without a protection pouch, never lent it to anyone, let a child touch it, barely ever even take it anywhere. 98% of the time it is on a side table or my desk in my home office. I tried to report that issue to Motorola too, but again was dismissed. The ghost touches became more frequent and caused problems like making unintended calls, closing apps I was using, prematurely sending messages, and even deleting things. Every time I tried to get help, Motorola dismissed or ignored me. I couldn’t afford to replace the phone at my own cost and my insurance refused because it was still under Motorola warranty. Then it started switching off for no reason. Opening the phone and the screen remained off. Having to open and close the flip several times before the screen registered the action and came on. Screen locking/unlocking on its own. Phone crashing. Phone freezing. Screen sticking. Screen lagging. Touches registering incorrectly. Screen became bumpy. Darkening of the screen across the hinge area. Adaptive brightness became faulty and had to be turned off. Needing to lock and unlock the phone constantly to “reset” some of the issues, like the many, many, many screen problems. In June 2024 the rear camera stopped functioning. I hoped Motorola would finally do something because it was a clear hardware issue and the warranty must now be honoured. But they refused. Because by then all Motorola support had been withdrawn from my country and no warranties (extended or otherwise) were honoured. Motorola completely turned its back on my whole country! I begged them to help. They ignored me. The money I used to buy the phone was good enough for them, but the human behind it was treated like I’m worthless. Desperately, I contacted the service centres that used to attend to Motorola repairs in my country. The same response from those that replied – We will not touch Motorola products, not even for cash up front. The issues all got worse and I began to hate using my phone. Some days I just switched it off and put it away in a cupboard because it’s depressing to struggle so much with this expensive high-end phone. 16 July 2025 was the final straw. The screen was so bad that I couldn’t even finish reading one text. Ghost touches, freezing every few seconds, going dark without warning, sticking, etc. I restarted it because locking and unlocking wasn’t working. No difference. Eventually I gave up for a while. When I opened my phone to try again the screen made an awful crunching sound. Like a foil potato chip packet being crumpled. And instead of the screen coming on, it began flickering green. I immediately turned the phone off and on again. But it still flickered green with almost none of the home screen visible at all. I switched it off again for a while. When I opened my phone again, the entire top half of the screen just detached from the phone and flopped loose, from above the hinge area, and the bottom half, below the hinge area, went completely black. An entirely dead screen with half of it flapping free from the phone body. The external screen still works but has such limited functionality that it doesn’t help much and I didn’t save up for a luxury phone to have a tiny screen, no camera, minimal functionality, inability to access numerous apps, no access to Settings at all, and the constant fear that my phone will stop working entirely when I cannot afford a new one.
