Over the many years of owning dogs and, in general, looking for a door mat or rug to keep the wet, mud, and snow outside instead of on my floors, I have tried several so-called absorbent mats, rugs, etc.
The first thing about Muddy Mats that is different is their actual no-slip backing. I mean, my Rottweilers have really done their best at testing the limits of "no slip," and these mats, the outdoor and indoor rug type, have not budged an inch. They stay exactly where you put them, no tripping on bunched-up mats or rugs because the cat just did zoomies or the dog ran by at mach speed.
Second, the outdoor mat traps all the dirt, dust, and grime under the top mesh type layer; no water is getting through this, period. To clean it, just flip it over and tap; all that dirt just falls right out. You can also take it out on the driveway and hose it off if it gets too dirty. The indoor rug type mat is so absorbent, one pass over this and paws are clean and dry, we never have wet or dirty paw prints on our hardwood floors, never. And of course, these work for human shoes too!
I have 3 of the outdoor mats for in front of the doors, and 2 indoor rug/mats and a 6-foot runner mat in the hall by the front door. They all work great and keep my floors pawprint-free and dry.
The indoor mats are machine washable and dry on medium to low heat to keep the non-slip backing from being damaged. These will last you for years and are well worth the money.
I take mine outside and shake them out before washing because you won't believe the amount of dirt that is trapped in them. They are thick, durable, and come in many sizes and colors. I even take one with me for my service dog to lie on when we are out and about, so he's not on the hard floor all the time.
I have purchased several of both types of mats and would 100% recommend them to anyone who needs a good entrance rug/mat or welcome mat, no matter if you have pets or not, they are great.
