Victoria - Stansted return (or not)

My Victoria - Stansted booked service was delayed in both directions. Whilst traffic problems are sometimes unavoidable there was no realtime information for passengers available. Had this been in place then we would have the choice to make other travel arrangements to fit in with connections. Instead we were made to queue like cattle only to be told at the gate that our service was delayed and the coach that we expected to board was the late-running previous service. Ridiculous in this day and age.
