Tech guy convinced me to give him access to my computer. He wouldn't give me the name of the company he worked for. Kept dodging the question. Said he was epson support. He did get my printer working but then insisted I get protection software from him. Lowest price option was $600. I said I didn't want to get it. If I needed it I wanted to look at other providers and reviews. I asked him who it was with. He said one of the top providers but there was no evidence of that. The quote was just numbers typed in by him on my notes page. When I said I didn't want to pay that much he halved the price. He was just very dodgy. He said he had fixed the problem and I had to get it. If I didn't get it, I had to let him put the computer back to the way it was, and then my printer wouldn't work again. I said ok do that. At one point he opened my paypal account and was asking me to put through the transaction. This is what really scared me, that he could open my paypal account. But I guess he couldn't access it without a password, or he would have. He gave me a contact number and said I could call him anytime if there were any further problems. But I didn't trust him. He was too pushy. I said how do I know if I can reach you on that number? He quoted me a price in dollars and I said is that Australian dollars? He said no that's US dollars. Then he said he would give it to me in AUD. It was the same price. He obviously didn't know where I was and didn't realise AUD have a very different value to USD. In the end I hung up on him and uninstalled the software that allowed him to control my computer. I also changed my computer id password. He has called back a dozen times since then, and it is still the same day.
