My wife and I along with our daughter and her partner hired out N-5560 which is a hytte near Nedstrand in Norway. The location, near the fjord was pleasant but we did worry when, upon arrival, we saw four fly killer strips hanging near the kitchen sink.Our fears were justified when we opened the back door and hundreds of flies swarmed in. We then closed the doors and windows and set to work with fly spray and fly swatters. We should have abandoned the hytte there and then but there was no alternative available in the vicinity.The flies were everywhere. They came from outside, from the ceilings and everywhere. Cooking was almost impossible and trying to get sleep was a nightmare. After a few days of this hell we phoned Novasol to complain and eventually abandoned the hytte and booked into hotels.This property had a serious fly infestation problem and should never have been offered out for rental.On our return home we lodged a complaint both with the owner and with Novasol.The owner referred us to Novasol. Novasol said that they could not be held responsible for insects outside the property (even though the property was infested) and the owner has not offered any compensation.We feel that Novasol should have contacted the owner and sought compensation on our behalf and told them that they would not re-list the property until the fly infestation problem was solved.If we do not get compensation for a ruined holiday, due to a problem that the owners must have been aware of, we will consider taking legal action.WE have previously rented many holiday homes through Novasol and not had any problems. With this experience, unless we are compensated, we are unlikely to use them again.To add to the problems with this hytte the decking was dirty and the bar b que had not been cleaned.We would urge Novasol to get its act together and secure compensation for us and de-list this property until the fly infestation problem is solved.
