I have had a problem with British Gas over "ghost usage" of energy on the economy 7 side of my meter. I have no appliances wired into economy 7. After British Gas gave me the run around and showed no intention of getting to the heart of the matter, I introduced Ofgen into the fray. British Gas explained to them, even though nothing is connected to economy 7, that it was probably my fridge freezer and items on stand-by which were the culprits for the mysterious nightly usage. They maintained that it was possible for appliances to migrate from 24/7 supply to economy 7, and vice versa. Bizarrely, Ofgem believed this ridiculous explanation and awarded their decision to British Gas. I can arrive at only one conclusion, Ofgem are an utter waste of time and as useful to the public as an ashtray on a motorcycle.
