Ollie’s just opened a store in Midland, Texas a month or two ago. I have gone to it several times, finding a few bargains and enjoying just looking. Today, I went with purpose, though. My vacuum cleaner stopped working and Ollie’s advertised a cheap replacement. While there, I also bought some copy paper, index cards, and light bulbs. Everything went smoothly until I got to my car and realized the light bulbs I bought were not in my bag. I went back in the store to ask for my light bulbs. My receipt showed that I paid for them but they were not in my bag. The cashier that checked my purchase out told me he didn’t know where they might have gone and would have to call a manager. The manager came and told me she would have to check their security camera footage. She left for 10 to 20 minutes then returned to tell me she saw me leave the store with my bag then returned to the store to return the shopping cart so I must have the light bulbs and they would not be giving me any more. She then told me to go with her to see the camera footage so she could prove I had the bulbs. By this time, I was tired of standing there while she appeared to be calling me a liar and trying to con her out of a $2.99 pack of light bulbs so I told her no. I had just purchased a $100 vacuum cleaner and $20 worth of paper and index cards in addition to the light bulbs. Why would I try to cheat her out of a $2.99 pack of light bulbs? I have sent a complaint to the Ollie’s website. We will see if anyone responds but I just wanted to tell people to be wary of the Ollie’s in Midland. Their sign says the customer is always right but evidently their manager can’t read it.I just wanted to update my review. It is now Tuesday, about 5 days after my experience at Ollie’s. The Ollie’s District Manager called me to respond to my complaint. Evidently, the manager that insinuated I was a liar was actually an assistant manager. The District Manager assured me that this assistant manager would be retrained in customer service and that he would see to it that I get my light bulbs. This has restored my faith in the company. The horrible way that I was treated was the assistant manager’s view of how to treat other people, not the company’s view and now the company plans to retrain this person on how Ollie’s wants people treated.
