Our 13 1/2 year old dog had really slowed down because of hip dysplasia that is so bad that his right leg bone was no longer connected to his hip. This meant having to carry this 65-pound dog up multiple flights of stairs. Walking had slowed to a painful shuffle with the nails of one rear leg often dragging on the pavement. He would walk a few feet slowly, stop, rest, and walk a few feet again. It was heartbreaking to watch :(Searching for some kind of solution, we heard super-positive feedback about Ortho Dog from a friend of a friend who had purchased their Hip Hound Brace for the same problem. We too read the negative reviews about their return policy (which is a bit restrictive but is also very common sense), but decided after researching competing products to give Ortho Dog a try. We bought the Hip Hound Brace hoping that using it would at least reduce our dog's pain while out for a walk. The results were and are GAME-CHANGING. Now I have to jog to keep up with our dog! He loves long walks again instead of pulling for home at the first street corner! Upon our return home, dog walks up the steps. No more carrying him!!!! He radiates confidence instead of pain and discomfort!!!We only use the Hip Hound Brace when we talk him outside for a walk. I do not know why, but the wonderful results have carried over to when he is moving around in the house without the brace. Last night I came home and he ran down the long hallway to greet me --- right next to our other dog who has no hip dysplasia and is much younger!!! The Ortho Dog has significantly improved our dog's quality of life, and we are super-grateful that they made this all possible!!! A few things you should also know:Ortho Dog offers several products tailored to various mobility problems. So if your dog has mobility issues other than hip dysplasia, I suggest you check out their web site to see whether they offer a product that addresses your dog's needs.This is no one size fits all solution! As part of the checkout process, the site asks some questions (have a yardstick or tape measure handy) to recommend the exact size of Hip Hound Brace to order. Before buying we had one or two questions; Ortho Dog responded within an hour or two to our email inquiry and even asked follow-up questions to provide us with an optimal answer. Good sign!For the first 3 or 4 days we put on the brace, our dog slightly resisted me putting on the brace and walked a bit awkwardly. After that break-in period, he now stands completely still as I put the brace on, and he begin walking like he did 5 or more years ago. So be a bit patient if you buy this product; it does work!!!There are velcro straps on the rear leg part of the brace that require a bit of trial and error to adjust to your dog's legs.
