I subscribed to OurTime on 23 February…

I subscribed to OurTime on 23 February 2025. I logged into my new account the same day, and for around one hour began reading about the people that the site considered good matches. Bear in mind that I made no posts and had no communication with other members or with the site's administrators, having only posted a single photograph of myself, as requested. Then, suddenly, after around sixty minutes, the site stopped working, and I was informed that my account had been suspended for violating community standards, no details having been provided. I immediately protested to the site's customer service, and in a condescending response was told that my membership was now working but that, in essence, I should watch my step. A second response from me prompted an apology, with news that a mistake had been made. When I then tried to log in, the site demanded verification in the form of a phone number, which I provided but which was rejected. A third email from me got this response, which requested answers to the following questions. I quote here verbatim. Notice the number of detailed questions I was asked to answer."I appreciate the time you've taken to contact OurTime Customer Care. "I’d be happy to help you out. First, I need to verify that I’m working with the correct account. Can you please provide the following information: • Phone number used to verify your account• Zip code registered• Date of account creation• Date of Birth registered on the account• When was the last time you updated your photos? Describe our most recent photo upload.• When was the last time you sent a message? Who was the last person you communicated with?• When was the last time you were charged for a subscription?• What is the 23-digit reference number confirming the charge (your bank can provide you with this number) Please respond to at least 4-5 of the questions above. I look forward to hearing from you! Regards, LyreneCustomer Care Support"Finally, on checking my credit card charges today, 26 February, I find that OurTime has refunded the $59.00 I paid for a 3-month subscription. So this was the only bright spot in my dealings with this company.The fact that the answers to my emails to customer service seemed to be disjointed and to have no knowledge of earlier exchanges or the situation in general prompted me to conclude that none of them came from a real person.My advice is to avoid OurTime and to choose instead reliable sites like EHarmony or others. I especially think that elderly people should be wary. If OurTime is not a scam, it comes close to fitting the definition.
