I purchased a used 50 lb, six gallon, Metabo/Hitachi pancake air compressor, model EC914-S, “The Tank” from Pawn America. The compressor was packed in a single wall light corrugated box with crumpled Kraft paper. This is wholly inadequate for conventional third party (UPS/FedEx) shipping. Articles of this size and weight require double boxing and restraining elements in the primary container. It was damaged in transit. There were no markings on the box, such as “Fragile”, “Heavy”, “This end up”, or “This side up”. Upon receipt it was noted that a hole was knocked in the side of the single wall box and several corners were crushed. Upon opening, the regulator was found to be damaged beyond repair. The box was apparently also dropped from several feet because a heavy gauge metal foot support was badly bent. To the credit of Pawn America, Customer Service did offer a prompt refund upon return. But…… a speedy return, regardless of cost, doesn’t cover my time and travel for a problem created by Pawn America. I’m left looking for another compressor after purchasing a very serviceable one.
