Head office Edmonton Branch

left today really feeling depressed and dejected. My cat was not eating as much as his usual and I noticed one tooth was longer in the front than the other. Cat started to show signs of pain when eating dribbling and head shaking. Contacted the emergency line late during the evening. Advised to start a chat with vid vet which I did. Talked to a very nice vet who thought possible abscess, advised I should make app with pdsa in the morning. Called in the morning earliest app was 25/2/26.
Went along was seen by a very nice vet who explained the canine teeth needed to be removed as one was curved inwards and the other root exposed. But this couldn’t take place at the Edmonton branch as dental surgery was not done there. Told I would need to attend Hendon and she would squeeze him in on her list for the 19/3/26. The vet prescribed some antibiotics and said this should be given up until extractions on the 19th and the cost would be roughly 380. I left feeling a bit more at peace but needed to find the 380 fee quoted as fee was a big stress.

Once home I received a call later in the afternoon 25/02/26 stating there was an appointment available at the Edmonton branch for the following morning. My first thought was I thought they didn’t do dental extractions there according to the vet I had seen earlier. Well me wanting to get my cat out of distress asked if the caller to call me back, as I really didn’t have the funds and would see what I could do. Bottom line had three weeks before the rent was due and the cats in pain so made a choice and confirmed.

Now I appreciate the reduced cost and the service the pdsa provides. My cat is a rescue cat from another charity that someone else adopted and never wanted. He’s been with me for several years and really like one of my children. I took him on so I try to do all I can to meet his needs.

Unfortunately for me I have several lifelong unseen disability’s. We are a one wage household so no spare cash. This is what lead me to your organisation.
Now I am sure you can appreciate after dropping my cat off and returning to collect him. I was informed by a different vet, he had seven teeth removed, one fractured and the root was left because no X-ray to see where the root was or where or what condition it was in. The shock of seven teeth removed and one root left was enough for me. Now I’ve just paid 378 my rent, to have him attended to, thinking we are just on the healing process now. Only to be told after asking, that the initial canine fang root could still cause an issue. On stating my concern to the vet about cost I just incurred. Her response was, she suggests I try to save up just in case and I would need to go to a private practice to obtain a X-ray. In my head I was thinking is she f…..g serious, why does she think I am here.

Now I can appreciate you are a charity and do the work you do on a very limited budget from donations and x rays are expensive . But a x ray machine should be made available for situations like I have stated. My cat was already asleep and if a X-ray was taken when the tooth fractured the uncertainty and further stress to him could have been resolved and the situation resolved. Now I am left with ongoing worry that there is a potential possibility that more issues with the attempted extraction could appear and potential costs sooner than I would expect and me not being able to help him. For me I really don’t think this is acceptable and Tobes needs an x ray to see what’s what.

Some positives for this visit, your reception staff at Edmonton on both days, clean practice and the nurse I saw today 26/2/26

Also I would also like to add it would be good to have a petty cash tin on reception so individuals who use the service, can get change from cash payments . I’ve noticed on the occasions I have come to the clinic there is never no change. To give freely is one thing, but to feel compelled is another due to no change. Personally I am always prepared for the no change so prepare accordingly.
