We would like to say Peru was an amazing and memorable experience. I learned about Machu Picchu in 6th grade and it became a lifelong dream to see it and with Rylee's help and all of the staff and guides (Alejandro, Maya, Saul, Fabricio, Pedro, Elar, and Daniel), my dream came true. We loved learning about the history of Cusco and Sacred Valley first and then appreciated the story behind Machu Picchu even more. I highly recommend seeing Cusco and Sacred Valley first before seeing Machu Picchu. We would like to give a huge shoutout to Alejandro, Maya, Saul, and Fabricio. Alejandro checked in on us on WhatsApp after the earthquake in Arequipa. After our Arequipa city tour, Maya went and purchased a bag of cotton balls and a bottle of agua de Florida for my husband when he started feeling sick. Even though it was past our tour time, Saul and the driver drove us near to the restaurant where we were going to eat lunch and then Saul walked us to the restaurant, making sure we went to the correct restaurant. Fabricio was the best! He was an exceptional guide and presented the tour very well! He was passionate about Peru and its culture and history and conveyed it too.As for the hotels, we loved Colca Lodge and Palacio del Inka. Here are the little hiccups we experienced and my feedbacks:We constantly heard about Cusco’s high altitude and to take the altitude med before going to Cusco. Since we went through Arequipa first, it would have been helpful if informed about Arequipa’s high altitude. We took the altitude medicine as soon as we realized and landed in Arequipa. We would have preferred to be dropped at Colca Lodge and have lunch there instead of having lunch with the bus group at Chivay. We arrived at Colca Lodge around 3:30/4:00. With the gorgeous surroundings and a private hot springs, we would have enjoyed a longer stay there.Lunch was overpriced for the food and service at Sacred Valley. Lines were long at the buffet tables and desserts weren’t refilled. However, the restaurant and place was beautiful!! Fabricio really tried to tell us to get food before the bus rush. Our bad! 😬 We were so mesmerized by the beauty that we weren't listening to Fabricio or didn't understand the urgency!Due to train delays, we were late to the Machu Picchu tour. We made the tour, but felt rushed with lunch to catch the scheduled train ride back. We made it to the buffet lunch at Tinkuy-Sanctuary Lodge around 2:30 pm. They took our payments, but it felt like they were closing the buffet table. For the buffet price, service was very poor!My recommendation is to stay closer to Machu Picchu (e.g. if possible stay at Aguas Calientes or Ollantaytambo either the day before or after) in case there are delays. At Amazon, I wish we were able to choose our excursions or given the choice to pay for the extra excursion. I would have liked to see the clay lick.Lastly, our Covid antigen testing was not scheduled. However, Diego was attentive and responded and took care of it very quickly! We loved having direct access to a PFL representative throughout our stay in Peru. This is a lifesaver and a peace of mind for everyone!Again, despite these little hiccups, our Peru trip was very magical and memorable and we will be recommending PFL to all our friends.
