Our experience with Peters and May was unfortunately very disappointing. Our yacht was shipped back to Europe from Antigua after the ARC 2024. The unloading was contractually agreed and paid for in Antwerp. However, the unloading was then unexpectedly carried out in Southampton because Peters and May claimed that Belgian customs wanted to see the original invoice for the 1983 purchase, otherwise we would have to pay the VAT on our yacht.The fact that we were required to provide such proof came as a complete surprise to us, as we only heard about it a few days before arriving in Europe, and it wasn't possible within such a short time (and, according to our lawyer, wasn't necessary either).We were in contact with Peters and May for a year, and such proof was never mentioned. Unfortunately, despite repeated requests, Peters and May refused to provide us with any access to the correspondence with Belgian customs. What was very strange was that several other yachts had exactly the same experience...We had planned the transport for over a year, there was a lot of communication, and there were always opportunities to warn us about it beforehand. In the end, we were the losers, because picking up our yacht from Southampton was considerably more complicated and expensive; flights had to be booked, and extra vacation time had to be taken.All attempts to reach an agreement were unsuccessful; Peters and May flatly refused everything.For this reason, I can only say: Never again, a total disappointment.Update on answer from P&MSorry, it was not the case having being informed by you. You had more than one year to do so. We‘ve been in contact so many times even F2F on ARC2024.We‘ve asked further to see the communication with Belgium custom, you don‘t wanted. I‘m still wondering, that we‘ve by far not the only SY kicked of unplanned in UK from your vessel 😉Any attempt for a compensation for this desaster from was rejected from P&M.
