For years I was a fan of my Pikolinos Lagos boots made in Spain. Walking in them was amazing and they made my day when I wore them. I never liked how easily the non-leather part frayed, but I simply trimmed the threads because the rest of the shoe made up for it.When the soles wore out I gave their new Lagos model a try. The shoes I received smell awful, the embellishments look cheap, they are no longer soft and make the ball of my foot hurt, and they rub my heels. They also make my feet feel numb/itchy. Definitely not worth their price.I couldn't return them because they were a gift, so I thought wearing them would improve the fit and discomfort. Not at all, and now it looks like one sole is coming loose.I called Spanish customer service, and they explained that they have a much bigger market now that the Chinese have become interested in Spanish footwear, and have had to start manufacturing some models in other countries like China. They assured me that the materials and quality standard were all the same, which is clearly not the case (at least, for this pair of shoes). Also, in the new version of the Lagos(*) the fray-prone fabric covers a much larger area. It must have been cheaper than using leather, and it will definitely shorten the lifetime of the shoe because the frayed area will look terrible after wearing them a handful of times (that is, if they don't come apart before that). I am angry and sad, and I will not be buying Pikolinos again in the near future. I do not recommend them, unless you make sure that the model you want is made in Spain.(*) I bought them in Jan 2020 in the Spanish PIKOLINOS online store.
