A litter box, robot or otherwise, has one essential function: to collect a cat's waste and not spill it all over your floor. The Popur we bought failed at this miserably. It leaked cat urine through the machine, staining our wood floors and making the entire first floor of our house smell like cat piss. I tried cleaning the Popur inside and out, buying an expensive litter mat to place under the machine, and buying another expensive part -- a $45 higher splash wall. Nothing worked. Finally I wrote customer service and asked for advice. They instructed me to disassemble the machine -- a time-consuming and frankly disgusting process (given that it was leaking urine inside it). After reviewing photos I sent, a Popur representative affirmed that "we suspect there might be subpar worksmanship between the two major plastic parts" and offered to replace the machine. At this point I was done with this smelly $445+ piece of crap and asked for my money back. They ignored that request and decided to send me another machine anyway -- meaning I now have to also take time to refuse delivery. When I explained to them that in lieu of getting my money back I was going to write a negative review -- to warn others to stay away from this product -- the representative then tried to set us up for blame, reversing its earlier admission that the machine was defective, and now trying to claim it was our fault for using some kind of defective litter. (FYI we used perfectly normal amounts of regular Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal; the company says on its FAQ that "most clumping cat litter will work.")Do not buy Popur products. They look fancy but do not perform their most basic task.
