As an IAM Master, National Observer and a RoSPA Gold and Diploma Holder, I thought I had advanced riding pretty much sorted. However,, always looking to improve, I booked the Rapid Bikemaster Level 2 course. 1 day at Blyton, then 2 days on the roads. Giles our Blyton coach for the day was brilliant, before each session on track, Giles would explain the concept and skill we were to practice for the session, after each session he would accurately debrief and coach any refinement required to improve the technique, his recall for each of the 3 riders in the group was amazing. He identified any issue and gave the information we could understand to improve, sometimes just a subtle change had a huge benefit, his attention to detail was fantastic. The last two sessions were great fun, as our skills developed it increased the pace, great coaching before and after each session to really help consolidate the new techniques and how to understand how they are transferrable to road riding. I learnt so much in that one day by having such a professional and skilled coach like Giles. The roads days were equally impressive. Les, our coach introduced himself and we were immediately put at ease and any nerves settled. After the intro, an explanation of how the training would be conducted according to our needs and requirements, the coaching is flexible to bring out the best in each client. Myself and the other client both chatted later how impressed and relaxed we felt riding out of the car park for the first time, knowing that we had a top class coach with us.We then had some of the most professional, coaching ever, bringing what we’d learnt on the track, to the roads, Les would explain, then demonstrate with commentary, we would then incorporate his advice into our riding. It wasn’t riding aimlessly around roads waiting to come across conditions to deal with, Les knew the roads. After some advice about how to deal with double bends, we found ourselves on a road with many double bends, which we then rode a number of times in each direction, to really fine tune the technique. Again after Les coached safe overtaking techniques, we were on a road ideal for such opportunities. ( Coincidence ? I think Not)Les gave all coaching advice whilst we were riding in an accurate and timely manner, explaining in a way that enabled understanding of the situation. In addition to an all round improvement, I took away a couple of absolute gems of understanding, real “light bulb” moments. Overall, I was amazed at the incredibly high standard of coaching. The way things were explained, the expertise of the coaches far outshines anything I have experienced from other organisations. I’m riding in a calmer, more efficient manner which brings the pace up safely. I’ve also “pinched” many coaching techniques to improve my coaching. A massive thanks to Giles and Les for everything.Worth every penny.
