My son is 14 and finds spelling very difficult. He missed the critical rules of spelling during his earlier grades which left him leaving out almost all of the vowels. He was basically pushed through grades K-3rd without knowing how to spell. I took him out of public school and started to homeschool him. We tried a bunch of the highly rated (and highly expensive) spelling programs through the last few years that were recommended through homeschooling groups. Not one program even came close to this! All of the spelling programs were far too baby-ish because we had to start out at lower levels. This discouraged him a lot. TTRS started out with small words but because it was considered a "typing program" he didn't feel discouraged starting off with small words. My son has ADD with visual processing issues so it's tough for him to retain most things. The program is great for anyone struggling to spell because it hits almost all of your senses. Typing the word, seeing the word and hearing the word all at the same time. I'm so glad I tried this for him because his spelling improved immensely! We have been using this for about 8 months and he finished all of the main levels. He is now using the extras that we just found in other subjects. It's the first subject he does every day. He is actually happy to use this program! He doesn't love learning or school in general so this is a big deal! There is only one thing I would change. Sometimes they do not use the word in a sentence so if you have multiple spelling and uses for the word, they may get it wrong. Even with that small, infrequent issue, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that struggles with spelling and have tried a lot of other programs without seeing progress.
