I wrote a complaint to the BBB and part of the response I received from Readers Magnet included that they had reimbursed me and Ms. Lopez had tried to reach me. Yes, she wrote me a rambling email that laid the blame on me, not the company.
Below are some excerpts from the email I sent the company on 2-26/26:
• Unethical and poor customer services business practices: Had you and your staff been ethical and customer service oriented, they would have taken immediate action to fully reimburse me for the services I cancelled. But, sadly this was not done. Nor have you bothered to return my calls and you are the V.P. of this company!.
o One of your employees pressured me to give my manuscript to Readers Magnet so they can print it and make sales. Additionally, she wanted me to pay Readers Magnet. I declined because I kept asking her why should I pay you print my book when I already have a publisher? She claimed sales would increase…….I am quite certain the pressure tactics come from top management. Did she think I was stupid enough to turn my manuscript over to the company and then be asked to pay to do so?
• Aggressive and money grubbing marketing tactics: Top management has instituted a culture which includes aggressive marketing strategies that are not transparent and too focused on obtaining as much money out of current client as possible.
• Mr. Abines, you showed up at the November 6, 2025 wine tasting event at the Crowne Plaza hotel in midtown Manhattan even though your staff marketed the event after it had concluded. I do not think you knew what the heck was going on.
o This unbelievable error was not because I notified your staff last minute about the wine tasting. I did not. (See below data and emails sent out after the event). Your staff failed to plan in advance for the event.
o If your staff knew a lot about marketing they would have done it three weeks before the event with 2 follow-ups.
o Had we been provided with the email list below we could have called each person to follow-up to verify their attendance.
