I'm not very happy with my first box of 4 books. The swag isn't really swagging if you know what I mean. Also i got a book from a genre I didn't choose and I made many choices. I didn't do the minimum. With them having the ability to pick from all of their books they still sent me one from a style I didn't choose and don't enjoy. Really disappointed.I reached out to customer service and was informed that it fell under a category i misunderstood. I suggested that maybe they give a description of what they consider each genre. I was told that basically maybe this service wasn't right for me. Not sure how that is very good customer service. Also they said they don't have to follow the preferences. In my case it was a difference in what I thought they meant for a category. I didn't ask for a replacement. I just asked that they do what they could to prevent this in the future and not act defensive because I came to them with a problem. I was not rude. I just wanted to understand why I got the book I didn't think fit my preferences. They called it a mystery box too. Yet advertise it as to your preferences. So I get mixed messages from them. In the end it's fun if you want the random books that are signed by the author but you know there are many many signed copies so just expect random books and if you want the swag it's pretty cheap stuff that's not really worth it. Once you add shipping for the same price you could pick books and know you'll be happy with them. I thought it would be fun to have them be a surprise as I've been reading romance since I was a teen. I'm new to the book subscriptions thing so I did some research and found that many people suggest other services and I'm now on the wait list for those. I did contact customer service and give them a few days to respond to ask why I should keep their services before I canceled and got no reply. I guess it's for the best as their customer service agent that told me maybe this service wasn't for me is not the kind of person I want to give my money to. I don't expect the world. I do hope for compassion and a desire to help and fix any issues. They saw it as it was not an issue and really frustrated me with the way they talked to me for example this "We do care very much about our readers and we make every effort to correct issues when we make a mistake. However, we are not Amazon. We are a small business" I don't think they realize how defensive this sounds as well as the fact that they didn't offer any solution and ignored my suggestion to update the preferences so everyone knows what they mean.The funny thing is with Amazon I can buy exactly what I want to read for the same price per book. So they aren't helping by bringing this up. I'm not looking to pay the same price for books and get books i won't read. It being a surprise isn't fun if you get stuff you can't use. I gave them a very easy solution that would be more inclusive of every type of reader. So be careful with this company. I hope this helps people to know what they may be dealing with. It's probably a great service if you have low expectations but I don't feel like they would fix any issues as they told me both that the book was in my preferences and that it didn't matter as they are allowed to not follow the preferences.
