I had a very disappointing experience with SmartFares. My trip was canceled by the airline due to the war in the Middle East. When I contacted the airline directly, they confirmed that I was eligible for a full refund.
However, SmartFares tried to keep about $500 (around 60% of my ticket price) even though they did nothing to resolve the situation. They kept insisting on charging this amount despite the airline clearly stating that the ticket should be fully refunded.
In addition, they told me I would have to wait one billing cycle (about 30 days) just to receive the refund. This was very frustrating because the cancellation was made by the airline, not by me.
This felt extremely unfair and unprofessional. The airline confirmed I should receive the full refund, but SmartFares still attempted to charge a large fee for essentially nothing.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend booking through SmartFares. I strongly advise travelers to confirm refund policies carefully or consider booking directly with the airline to avoid situations like this.
