The social services in the local area are quite frustrating. They claim to want to keep families together, yet I applied for kinship for my grandson, whom I haven't seen in over 7 months. According to them, grandparents have no rights in Scotland. They denied my request based on my past from 22 years ago and my epilepsy, despite having a supportive family network. They keep insisting on family unity but never gave my son and daughter-in-law a fair chance. My grandson ended up in care for various reasons. I wouldn't trust the social services at all. Now my partner and I can only see our grandson in photos, missing out on precious milestones. My advice would be to get legal representation if social services approach you, as many recent graduates seem to lack proper judgment. I strongly recommend avoiding the local social services as they tend to be overly judgmental.
