As I wait for Speechify to deem the next third of a lengthy file worth reading (that all-too-familiar blue circle telling me nothing useful), I have time to write a review after two years subscribed to this service.
Some parts are simply ignored, and going back does not reduce the loss. Some are spoken as if the narrator has his balls jammed in a vice and are unintelligible. Some are in an entirely different voice.
None of the voices knows the difference between taking a bow after a command performance and drawing one to fire an arrow. It seems that Speechify doesn't know context yet, while other LLM's do.
Want to use Speechify with the wise protection of a VPN? You're out of luck. Want them to stop spending money on celebrity voices, and instead focus on improving their product, nope. Want your complaints to be answered? You're better off yelling down a wishing well.
Speechify is expensive, and after two years, I see no improvements. Is it worth it? Well, two stars. Work it out.
