Just called the SRA asking what requisite documentation a client must sign before instructing a solicitor and what information, documentation and identification the client must provide. Was advised this fell under the category of "legal advice", my questions wouldn't be answered and that I should seek "independent legal advice". I explained I wasn't seeking legal advice, just clarification of what rules solicitors regulated by the SRA must follow. Same answer - "seek independent legal advice". This would be comical if it wasn't so troubling. The SRA refuses to advise the public what rules solicitors they regulate must follow.
