Beware! DO NOT SIGN anything it’s bait and switch! They say they have a driver then you agree on a price, sign the contract, make an $100 deposits then it is complete run around after that! They all of a sudden they don’t have a driver and price they quoted you no driver will take unless you “raise” your budget?! There are increasing DOT inspections nationwide? The price needs to go up 200-300% All of a sudden it’s not a contract it’s an agreed estimate but you can’t back out and get your money back! Complete headache, complete bad business. All these good reviews have to be by their own employees. They are a joke and I do not know how they stay in business and get away with this. All I can say is pick someone else!
EDIT: I learned a lot from shipping my car, and unfortunately Smooth Vehicle Shipping and Cargo was the worst part of the experience.
First thing to know: most of these “shipping companies” are really just dispatchers/brokers. They are not the actual car haulers or truck drivers. The price you’re quoted is often an estimate, but the way they word it is extremely vague and buried in fine print. They do not clearly explain that your “agreed price” can change after you sign.
Here’s how it went for me: I called and was told they had a driver and the price would be $395, and that my car could be delivered in about three days. They sent a contract stating the agreed amount, a $100 deposit, and the remaining balance due in cash to the driver upon delivery. Nowhere was it clearly stated that the PRICE was also only an estimate. I don't know about y'all, but where I'm from an estimate can be a little off, but 250% off is called a bait and switch and is illegal in every state.
The second I signed and paid the deposit, everything changed. Suddenly they “didn’t have a driver” and said they were having trouble finding one because my quote was “too low.” When I questioned why the price changed after I signed, they said it was always an estimate and that driver availability and pricing change constantly. They will throw shiz against the wall to see if it will stick.
Examples from the text thread:
"There are increasing DOT inspections nationwide"
"Drivers charge much more than what was quoted per mile"
"No drivers are available at that price"
"You were quoted $XX per mile, the cost is now $XXX per mile"
In essence your 'estimate' is not worth the paper it was written on and was just to get you to give them money so now you have to go with them.
Also you won't be getting your deposit back. They refuse to return your money. Terms are buried in their online contract which you don't get to print, review, sign, and send back to them.
My advice: be extremely careful. Do not trust their quote. Make them put it in writing that the price is the exact price and not an estimate. If they won’t, run.
