This was a great opportunity to dive into the world of academic research analysis. As a research associate, I really enjoyed being able to explore research trends at my own pace, leading a group of motivated and friendly interns, and receiving guidance when needed. The team was supportive, and the work felt meaningful, especially since bibliometrics plays a big role in understanding scientific progress. If you like data, literature reviews, and uncovering patterns in research, this internship is a great fit. It's also very beginner-friendly!The skills I gained are transferable to many fields, and the project was engaging enough that I’d consider doing it again, especially if I had the chance to explore a new research question. I conducted a full literature review and bibliometric analysis on the use of Sigma-1 receptor agonists in combating glutamate toxicity, a topic I'm very passionate about since it relates to pharmaceuticals and chemical engineering while tying in principles of biochemistry. While my team was behavioral neuropharmacology, we had a lot of leeway in choosing a topic that we were all excited about! When it comes to skills gained, I learned to use tools like R, Web of Science, and Bibliometrix to process and present research trends. I also improved in assessing the impact and connections between academic papers, practiced summarizing complex research trends for presentations, and gained experience working on a long-term research project. This internship is ideal for self-motivated students. It’s not a program where everything is strictly required and deadlines are enforced, so you get out what you put in... but if you take initiative, it’s a fantastic learning experience. Would recommend to anyone looking to strengthen their research and analytical skills!
