I was part of the 2025 Bibliometrics Cohort, and participating in this internship has been a valuable experience overall. I was able to develop foundational R-Programming skills—especially in data handling - that I'm sure will prove to be useful as I continue with research. The exposure to research structures and academic expectations also gave me a good idea of how larger collaborative projects are typically run, further preparing me for future research positions. However, I feel it’s important to note that the quality of the research experience itself can vary significantly depending on your assigned research team. My team chose to explore the epigenetic factors that lead to the exacerbation of Huntington's Disease pathogenesis, and we struggled significantly due to a lack of experienced leadership and proper time management. I felt that my associates had limited experience in managing a research team - this was expected, as this internship is designed to be an introduction to research - but I think with more consistent support and clearer guidance, we would have been able to stay on track with our research goals. We missed opportunities for deeper exploration and collaboration, which I deeply regret. That said, I do believe the internship has potential to offer a beneficial introduction to research if efforts were to be allocated to developing more structure, or to associate training. I would be willing to give this experience another try should the above changes be implemented.
