After a year of using TipRanks, which I actually accidentally subscribed to through a friend's recommendation and referral links, I am honestly going from impression to depression. The app looks great at first. You see TipRanks Ultimate, Analysts' Top Stocks, Top Smart Score Stocks, Daily Analyst Ratings, Insiders' Hot Stocks, Trending Stocks, Best Dividend Stocks, Stock Comparison, the Trump Dashboard, Smart Dividends, Smart Growth, Smart Investor and even stock, ETF and crypto screeners all in one place. In reality, many of the highly rated ideas in these lists have performed no better than a simple index fund in my actual portfolio, and some Smart Score favourites have even done worse than names the app did not recommend. TipRanks itself admits that Smart Score performance is based on backtested data and is not a guarantee of future results, which really matches what I am seeing. The other frustration is how the service treats paying users. Portfolio sync has been unreliable for me more than once, and sometimes pages hang when I try to dig into the details. When I later checked other review sites, I saw people reporting problems such as portfolios not updating, being locked out after checking too many stocks in one day, surprise upgrades to higher tiers, difficulty cancelling and very slow or no refunds. That aligns with my feeling that TipRanks is far more aggressive in selling annual plans than in ensuring everything works smoothly for the investor.I still open the app now and then as a second opinion, so I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1. However, I wouldn't recommend jumping into a long annual subscription unless they significantly improve accuracy, reliability, and their handling of billing and support.
