So, TrafficStars claims they follow “safe harbor” laws and that they “act in accordance with all applicable laws to maintain a safe and compliant platform.” Sounds great, right? Well… not really.I sent them several DMCA notices about some pretty obvious illegal content. To their credit, they did reply, but their response was basically, “We’ll send it to our compliance team, and maybe we’ll deal with it in the future.” Uh… what? That’s not how this works. Platforms are supposed to act quickly when they’re notified of illegal activity. Instead, the content stayed up, and their attitude felt more like, “Eh, we’ll get to it when we feel like it :)”f TrafficStars is made aware that a site they collaborate with is profiting from pirated content and openly mocking people who request takedowns, they have a responsibility to act. Safe harbor protections don’t apply when a platform is aware of illegal content and does nothing about it. They can’t just hide behind “safe harbor” if they’re knowingly working with sites that host stolen content. At the very least, they should make it clear to those sites that they don’t support such practices.But TrafficStars doesn’t seem to care. As long as the money keeps flowing, they’re happy to ignore the violations. It’s disappointing to see a platform that claims to be compliant only to turn a blind eye when it’s convenient for them.If you’re dealing with a similar situation, don’t waste time hoping they’ll take action. File a report with the relevant EU authorities (like those enforcing the EU Copyright Directive) and let them handle it. Platforms like this only seem to care when they’re forced to. 😉
