While searching for a dog trainer experienced in protection training for my Doberman, I discovered a service that appeared ideal. Their website claimed extensive experience training Dobermans since 2002! After reaching out, I spoke with a man who introduced himself as the head trainer. Unfortunately, he was abrasive from the outset, sharing his personal grievances instead of focusing on my needs. In hindsight, that call should have been a red flag, but I was reassured he wouldn’t be the one assessing my dog. However, he showed up for the assessment, claiming a cancellation from another client. As soon as I handed him the lead, it was clear he lacked the necessary skills for personal protection training. His method involved provoking my dog without proper equipment or assessment. Frustrated, I asked him to leave, which led to an unprofessional outburst from him. Afterward, I researched the company and found numerous unhappy clients and cases of mistreated dogs. I’ve learned the importance of thoroughly vetting dog trainers.
