I booked a caravan through UKCaravans4Hire for the upcoming weekend and paid in full. Within minutes, the owner contacted me directly to say they no longer list their caravan through the site and had previously asked for their listing to be removed. This left me without a holiday just days before I was due to travel. I submitted a complaint through my account, but received no response. With no clear contact details available, I had to search online for a phone number. When I called, a staff member said they would contact the owner to verify my claim and call me back - but I heard nothing. Later that day I spoke to a different staff member who offered either a refund or to transfer the payment to another booking. I asked for links to other caravan options in the same area, but the ones they sent we 30-40 minutes away and not suitable. I found another caravan myself on their website and asked if my booking could be transferred to that one, but I got no response. I decided to request a refund and book elsewhere as confidence in my booking being sorted by Friday was lacking.The next day, I called again and was told they wouldn't issue a refund until the owner confirmed the booking was invalid. I explained that the owner hadn't responded the day before, and asked what would happen if they didn't reply for weeks - my money would essentially be held to ransom. I stated the matter should be between them and the owner and not involve me. The staff member was abrupt, stating she wouldn't risk her job issuing a refund without confirmation or speaking to a manager. I asked to speak with their manager but was refused, stating they would call the owner then call me back straight away. Again I received no follow-up call and they still have my money. This experience has been stressful, time-consuming and disappointing. I expected better communication, accountability and customer care from a company that facilitates holiday bookings.
