Classic Bait and Switch, United TAX Defense (UTD) is a storefront to get you in an installment contr

A representative named Katie Lee of United Tax defense contacted me last December close to the end of the year offering to help me get out of tax debt. This contact by Katie was unsolicited. After a few attempts with the IRS she was able to get me an extension on the tax debt I had due for 2023. I was a 1099 worker for 2023 and some of 2024, and needed to catch up, but had had trouble finding stable work after leaving my job last June. Katie promised many goals that we both shared offered by United tax defense to include 1) an offer in compromise or 2) eliminating the tax debt all together 3) tax prep help for 2024. She also sensed the urgency that we should get 2024 taxes done ASAP to do this as a package. She shared all these five star reviews about United tax defense, and I was hesitant, although willing to give it a try for the fee they were asking in the contract with United Consumer Fin. service, on an installment to pay. This was done sometime in Jan 2025. (agreement copy available) At that time, Katie Lee began to be difficult to get in touch with/ non responsive to my requests. She also assigned me to a Case manager named "Manny" who never did anything. He did speak with me on the phone once or twice, but no movement was going on with my case. I lost touch with Manny and then a new case manager began reaching out ot me around March. (apparently Manny left UTD) At that time, I had lost complete confidence in United Tax Defense because : 1) around February 2024, when tax docs were first available I made every effort to get my info to them so they could do my taxes fast. Yet the tax worksheet website UTD sent me was non functional, nor was it secure. It looked quite elementary and unprofessional. I spent quite a few hours scanning receipts and attempting to upload docs to it. Katie was apologetic and said something about it going under maintenance. The company and new case manager called me once, but I was then hesitant and lost confidence in them to do anything as they could not even provide a secure setting for me to share my sensitive docs (they suggested using a google drive link). I then changed course and said to just help me do the offer in compromise for 2023 or negotiate something on my behalf for 2023. That was never done by UTD (united tax defense)In fact, I tried to reach out to Katie a few times in April and all her emails were bouncing back as well as her cell phone texts. (screenshots available) Last month, I heard from case manager no 3 named Beth. At this point I wasn't planning to make any more payments on the contract because UTD failed to do any of the work they promised to do. I last spoke to a supervisor named Egar, who kept insisting for me to send my tax info to him and that they would only do the tax defense work if I did my taxes for 2024 with them. He was not flexible on this, in spite of all the turnover with case managers, and faulty tax document prep website, among other miscommunications and just a complete lack of attention to my case. I have been in touch with UTD since Dec 2024, and here I am now approaching my tax extension deadline with IRS, and still in the same place where I started. I told Egar to let me out of the contract because it was no longer in effect as they had failed to do their part. He was like a recording and kept talking at me instead of listening to me. He sent a few messages even after our conversation for me to send my tax docs to him. Why would I do that at this point? I am prepared to pursue all remedies in law and equity to get out of this unconscionable contract. It is completely unjust to require payment for this fraudulent contract. UTD didn't do anything. Katie Lee misrepresented UTDs' abilities, and UTD followed suit. They just send emails and call you, leave a few voicemails, but they never do anything, nor do they have any intention to do so. --KE
