Concerns About Workplace Culture and Fairness

As a Veteran, I feel compelled to mention that while my experiences with the service in Grand Junction, Colorado have generally been positive, there have been several instances of missed or delayed appointments, incomplete lab work, and scheduling errors that raised concerns. However, as a former employee, I must express that the atmosphere at the facility was quite toxic. During my time as the Staff Chaplain from April 2020 until my retirement at the end of 2025, I became aware of troubling incidents. For instance, during a casual conversation about childhood nicknames, an unexpected remark regarding plantations introduced discomfort, especially considering the presence of an African American staff member. This shift in topic was inappropriate and created an unsettling environment. Additionally, staff were pressured to validate attendance for new employee orientation despite established protocols. This raises ethical concerns regarding how staff are treated and the integrity of official records. I'm relieved that my colleagues refused to engage in such dubious practices. Furthermore, the practice of initiating detailed investigations based solely on one individual's word poses serious questions about fairness and due process. Such actions can lead to undue stress for employees without proper evidence. I have witnessed the negative impact of this firsthand, as many colleagues confided in me about their unfair treatment, with one even expressing thoughts of self-harm. The misuse of authority is a significant issue, and it's crucial that all parties are treated fairly and that investigations are conducted thoroughly and impartially. A suggestion was made that anyone making allegations should also be subject to the same scrutiny, which I wholeheartedly support. There are too many instances of favoritism and cliques that hinder a healthy work environment.
