I am thankful to VU for opportunity to get hands on experience in venture capital. Each week we sourced new investments and presented them at weekly partners' meeting. Partners shared their experience and challenged us with questions that helped us to learn and grow more. The program also provided learning sessions, fire site chats with other VCs, and lots of networking opportunities. It is hard to find such a comprehensive program that can teach so much in just a little over two months.
Overall, I had a really great experience at VU and have learned a tremendous amount from having taken part in it. Being a mere sophomore in college and a natural introvert, at times I felt intimidated by my fellow cohort members, given their substantial experience, but I used the time I spent in the office to really break out of my shell and let my opinions be heard. Doing that has been very beneficial for me in developing my social skills, which translated to my leadership position at college at well. However, there are a few things that could have been improved upon. I wish we had more time to dig deeper into each startup and discuss in depth at partners meetings. At times they felt rushed and sometimes companies were judged unfairly or too quickly based on previous assumptions. Also, I wish the partners were more accessible because at times they did not feel approachable due to their busy schedule. Additionally, I would've liked the program to be a bit longer, due to the sheer amount of startups we had to analyze, it was very difficult for me to get through all of them. Apart from those aspects, I did enjoy my time at VU and might join again in the future.
I was a part of cohort 2 and currently work in venture. I did VU after working as an operator at startups and completing my Master's. Lot of great things to highlight:-- Partners: The partners have extensive VC experience and are able to share their knowledge, experience, and most importantly time to help mentor each cohort-- Network: Your cohort will become a great network within the VC ecosystem. Great opportunity to get in touch w/ Alumni or future cohorts as well-- Hands on: It is difficult to get VC experience, so most people read blogs, listen to podcasts, or take VC classes. VU goes one step further with a true apprenticeship model of learning by doing. You'll get to meet with founders, participate in weekly partner meetings, conduct due diligence, and play a role on the investment committee.Great way to kickstart a career in venture, learn how to make better angel investments, network with future colleagues in the ecosystem, and learn from a great team!
I truly enjoyed my time during VU's first virtual cohort (C8!) and believe it exceeded my expectations. Sky, Andrew, Jenna, Aakash, and Arpan were all instrumental to my development during my time at VU. I highly recommend and urge those contemplating on whether this is the step to jumpstart their VC/PE careers long-term!
What sets Venture University apart for me from any of the other courses that I have in the past attended is... (1) the influential network that I have become part of, as well as (2) the high quality and practical academic content that I have been exposed to, whilst at the same time(3) gaining insight and learning from the practical experiences of some of the top GP's in the VC industry. The time I spent at VU is of immense value to me and I can recommend it to anyone interested in joining the VC/PE industry.
VU was able to give me the education, tools, a remarkable and highly select network, all whom are successful people, and curriculum that no B school or University can provide. The exposure and work that goes into the program is unrivaled, and the framework of learning is by doing under top professionals - is unique, effective and concise. I had an incredible experience where cost was negligible based on what I have already gained professionally, monetarily, and educationally for years to come.
Having prior experience in Corporate VC, I was still struggling to make a switch to an early-stage VC. I joined Venture University to build my network, learn how to source deals effectively, and go through the experience of meeting with 100's of startups. Venture University was the perfect place to do so while going through the program I interviewed with 5 different VC's and successfully made the switch to an early-stage VC. I highly recommend Venture University anyone looking to breaking into VC and PE.
Venture University is the original venture capital investor accelerator. The program has been imitated but not replicated. It’s far and away the best program for current and future venture capital analysts, principals, partners and investors. I was part of Cohort 3 based in the SF headquarters. They’ve now expanded to New York and Hong Kong. In Cohort 3 I learned and worked with 2 VCs (Sky and Andrew) that have both extraordinary returns and extraordinary teaching skills. You’re simply learning from the best in their craft. Week 1 is intense. 10 hour days learning core venture capital concepts through through their real world early-stage investing experiences in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Venmo and Beyond Meat. Week 2 took it to the next level. The program grows from learning to working. We met with over 40 startup companies in 5 verticals. Determining which we would present to the General Partners during the weekly partners meeting. You’re investing $100,000 to $1 million at the end of the cohort in four to six companies too. Real decisions. Real money. Real consequences. So it’s more than a masters-level learning program it’s also the best 3 month-long internship in VC. They founders are very selective on who’s admitted into the program. For our cohort it was a 0.5% acceptance rate. Highly talented but even better people. A true credit to Jenna. Again it’s a select program with multinational demand. But I’m grateful and fortunate to be a part of the program and the VU family. Thanks to Sky, Jenna and Andrew. Again they’re highly selective but you can’t be admitted if you don’t take the chance and apply. I highly recommend.
